I have nearly thirty years' experience in a range of contexts as a teacher, trainer, researcher, consultant, examiner, leader, speaker, entrepreneur, and always a learner. What unites these roles is a passion and a commitment to providing all young people – regardless of background or ability - with high quality, inclusive educational opportunities.
I have a particular interest in working with, supporting, and learning from teachers. I have managed and delivered a number of high profile initiatives focusing on teacher CPDL (Continuing Professional Development and Learning) whilst my doctoral research focused on the experiences of, and influences on, secondary teachers of English.
I now combine freelance research, and consultancy with my role as a freelance Education Associate Practitioner for the Royal Shakespeare Company. For the RSC I deliver training all over the UK and sometimes internationally.
I also work with students to help them enjoy and understand Shakespeare and other complex texts.
Past freelance work:
Over the last fifteen years, I have developed and managed a range of freelance projects including:
working with or advising government and related agencies to develop educational/cultural policies, practices and resources (for example, the Qualification and Curriculum Authority; Culture, Creativity and Education; Department for Education and Skills/Wellcome Trust); and
supporting those working in schools or cultural organisations, by offering training, coaching/mentoring, consultancy and advice (for example, National Theatre; Royal Shakespeare Company; Booktrust; CapeUK;).
